About
Ida Öun is an Associate Professor and Assistant Head of Department at the Department of Sociology, Umeå University. Her research focuses on gender equality, work-family dynamics, social policy, and immigration. She is affiliated with research groups in Family Sociology, Political Sociology, Social Policy and Welfare, and Sociology of Work.
Key research interests include the intersection of gender, work, and family life; welfare privatization and political attitudes toward it; and the role of public policy in shaping gender equity. She leads projects like 'New maps of gender equality?' and 'Family friendly work – for whom?' examining comparative gender ideals and labor market policies.
Her publications analyze work-family conflict in Nordic countries, immigrant occupational segregation, and father involvement in childcare across 27 societies. Recent work explores how dual-earner policies impact role conflicts and societal perceptions of welfare service quality.
Öun's research bridges sociology and public policy, contributing to debates on family-friendly labor practices and the socio-political factors influencing gender roles in Europe and beyond.
