Dr Ian W. Oliver is Senior Lecturer in Environmental Science at Keele University's School of Life Sciences, where he also serves as Programme Director for the Environmental Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship. He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Chemistry from the University of Adelaide (2004) and has held research and academic positions at SEPA, SUERC, University of Edinburgh, CSIRO, and KU Leuven.

Research Interests:
Dr Oliver's research is deeply interdisciplinary, focusing on the environmental fate and behaviour of pollutants, particularly in soil and water systems. His work spans ecotoxicology, soil and mine site remediation, nutrient management, and water quality. He is especially interested in the role of soil amendments such as biochar and water treatment residuals in mitigating environmental contamination and enhancing ecosystem health. His studies often incorporate terrestrial invertebrates like earthworms as bioindicators of soil health and toxicity.
