Ian Rowen

Ian Rowen is a Visiting Associate Professor at Academia Sinica's Institute of Sociology and a PhD Candidate in Geography at the University of Colorado, Boulder. His research focuses on the political geography of tourism, regional politics, and cross-strait relations between China and Taiwan. Funded by the US National Science Foundation and the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy, his doctoral work examines tourism mobilities and their socio-political implications.

He has published in The Journal of Asian Studies, Annals of Tourism Research, and media outlets like the BBC and The Guardian. His 2015 research visit to the European Research Center on Contemporary Taiwan furthered his exploration of these themes.

Awarded a Fulbright Program Fellowship, his work bridges academic rigor with public discourse, offering critical analyses of modern geopolitical dynamics through tourism studies.
