About
Dr. Ian Riddlestone is a Lecturer in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Surrey, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. His research focuses on organometallic chemistry, bond activation mechanisms, and sustainable catalysis. He holds a MChem from the University of Newcastle and a DPhil from the University of Oxford, followed by postdoctoral positions at the University of Bath and the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS).
His research interests include cooperative reactivity in organometallic systems, activation of inert bonds (e.g., C-F, CO2), and development of weakly coordinating anions. Notable achievements include catalytic reduction of CO2 to methanol equivalents and studies on unsupported heterobimetallic complexes. He has published extensively in top journals like Angewandte Chemie, Chemical Science, and Journal of the American Chemical Society.
Key articles highlight work on proton transfer in DNA bases, Ni-boryl complex formation, and degradable polymer synthesis. His work bridges fundamental coordination chemistry and applied catalysis, with an emphasis on sustainable chemistry and main-group element reactivity.
