Ian Rice

Dr. Ian Rice is an Assistant Professor and Director of the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program at the University of New Brunswick (UNB) Saint John. His career includes frontline child welfare work supporting vulnerable families. Educated at St. Thomas University (BSW), York University (MSW), and UNB (PhD), he emphasizes social work as a transformative lifestyle.

Research Focus: Professional regulation's impact on social work practice, social justice in regulation, minimum entry requirements for social workers, and motivators sustaining practitioners. Current projects explore regulatory categories and workforce retention strategies.

Advocacy: Vice President of the New Brunswick Association of Social Workers, advocating for professional voice and standards. Engaged in policy discussions to enhance social work's societal role.
