About
Dr. Ian Pottie is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Physics at Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU). He holds a BSc from St. Mary’s University and a PhD from Memorial University of Newfoundland. His research focuses on organic chemistry, particularly natural product synthesis, asymmetric synthesis, and the application of reactions like the Henry reaction and Diels-Alder reaction in developing neuroimaging ligands for Alzheimer’s disease and multiple sclerosis. He leads a research group in the Center for Applied Research (CAR) and collaborates on projects involving cholinesterase ligands and drug design.
Dr. Pottie’s academic roles include teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. Notable student achievements include NSERC USRA awards for Alyssa Jaeschke and Matt Timm, and EndMS Summer Research Awards for Duncan D’Arcy and Chandni Seghal. His work bridges organic chemistry with medical applications, aiming to advance diagnostic tools for neurological disorders.
His research has been presented at major conferences such as the Canadian Chemistry Conference and Neuroscience 2010. The Pottie Lab focuses on innovative synthetic methods and their biomedical implications, contributing to both fundamental chemistry and applied health sciences.
