Dr Ian Pitt is a Lecturer in Usability Engineering and Interactive Media at the School of Computer Science & Information Technology, University College Cork. He earned his D.Phil. from the University of York, UK, and held a research fellowship at Otto-von-Guericke University, Magdeburg, Germany, before joining UCC in 1997.

His research focuses on multi-modal human-computer interaction, particularly the integration of speech and non-speech sound in interfaces, and the design of accessible systems for blind and visually-impaired users. He leads the Interaction Design, E-learning and Speech (IDEAS) Research Group at UCC.
The IDEAS group explores applications in diverse domains, emphasizing auditory feedback and inclusive technology design.
