Ian Major

Dr. Ian Major is the AMMP Manager at the PRISM Research Institute within the Faculty of Engineering and Informatics at the Technological University of the Shannon. He earned his BEng in Chemical with Polymer Engineering (2001) and PhD in Polymer Engineering (2005) from Queen's University Belfast. His research focuses on developing novel manufacturing techniques, particularly hybrid approaches combining 3D printing and injection molding to enhance production efficiency and material applications.

Research interests center on polymer processing, additive manufacturing, and sustainable materials. Key areas include:

• Advanced polymer composites and nanocomposites for industrial applications
• Biobased adhesives and resins for environmentally friendly manufacturing
• Low-energy processing techniques to reduce production costs
• Drug delivery systems using 3D printed pharmaceutical formulations

Publications demonstrate consistent focus on material properties in additive manufacturing, polymer blends, and sustainable solutions. Recent works explore structure-property relationships in high-performance thermoplastics, biopolymer applications, and environmental monitoring techniques.

Awards include the Medal of Excellence for research contributions to materials science.
