Ian Loader is Professor of Criminology at the University of Oxford and Fellow of All Souls College. His research examines policing, private security, penal policy, crime control, and the democratic purposes of criminology. Current projects investigate 'Place, crime and insecurity in everyday life' and the social consequences of automobility.
Research interests include:
- Sociology of policing and security
- Everyday in/securities
- Politics of crime and justice
- Criminology and environmental harm
- Automobility and social order
Loader serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Howard Journal of Crime and Justice and has advised government reviews including the Strategic Review of Policing in England and Wales. His honors include the Richard F. Fenno Prize and Mac Jewell Enduring Contribution Award.
