Ian Jones is a Professor of Piano and Deputy Head of Keyboard at the Royal College of Music (RCM), London. A Steinway Artist, he holds degrees including BMus, ARCM, DipRCM, and was made a Fellow of the RCM in 2014 by HRH Prince Charles. His career spans five continents, with performances with orchestras like the Royal Philharmonic and National Symphony Orchestra. He is a prizewinner at the Leeds International Piano Competition and has served on juries for international piano competitions.
Research interests focus on piano performance, pedagogy, and classical repertoire interpretation. His teaching has produced internationally successful students, and he leads masterclasses globally. Notable projects include composing and performing for the Oscar-nominated film Hilary and Jackie, and collaborations with France’s national theatres.
Awards include the Chappell Medal, Vlado Perlemuter Prize, and French government scholarships. He serves as Artistic Director of the World Piano Teachers Association International Piano Competition and examines at institutions like the Royal Academy of Music.
