Ian Fountain

Ian Fountain is a Professor of Piano at the Royal Academy of Music, London since 2001. A celebrated pianist, he won the Arthur Rubinstein Piano Masters Competition at age 19, performing extensively with orchestras such as the London Symphony, Israel Philharmonic, and Czech Philharmonic. His repertoire includes over 60 concertos, including complete Mozart piano concertos.

Education: Chorister at New College, Oxford; Winchester College; studied piano under Sulamita Aronovsky at Royal Northern College of Music.

Research interests focus on classical piano performance, chamber music collaborations (with artists like David Geringas and Ulf Hoelscher), and pedagogical approaches. He has conducted the Israel Chamber Orchestra and prepared critical editions of Beethoven's works for Henle Verlag.

Recordings include EMI's 20th Century Piano Sonatas and Sony's Beethoven cello-piano works with David Geringas. Annual masterclasses at Accademia di Cervo and jury roles in international competitions highlight his educational contributions.
