Iakovos Mavroidis

Iakovos Mavroidis serves as a Collaborating Researcher at the Computer Architecture and VLSI Systems Lab (CARV) of the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH) and as a Researcher at the Telecommunication Systems Institute (TSI) within the Electronic and Computer Engineering Department of the Technical University of Crete (TUC). He additionally holds a Visiting Instructor position in Computer Science at the University of Crete since 2012.

His academic credentials include a Ph.D. in Electronic & Computer Engineering from TUC (2011), an M.S. in Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences from UC Berkeley (2001), and a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Crete (1999).

Research focuses on Computer Architecture and VLSI Design with specialization in Heterogeneous Computing and Energy-Efficient Systems. His work drives innovation in FPGA acceleration and network processor design for high-performance computing environments.

He currently coordinates EU projects ECOSCALE (energy-efficient exascale computing) and RAPID (secure remote acceleration), while leading tasks in EUROSERVER and ExaNeSt. Past projects include FASTCUDA (as Technical Manager) and VPLANET.

Scientific recognition includes:

• Two gold medals in national Mathematics/Computer Science competitions
• Two bronze medals in national Mathematics/Computer Science competitions
• Two honorable mentions in International Olympiads for Mathematics/Computer Science

Active in both the CARV laboratory at FORTH and TSI research group at TUC, he directs development of next-generation computer architecture solutions.
