Iain B.H. Wilson

Iain B.H. Wilson is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Biochemistry, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna. His career spans over two decades, with habilitation in 2001 and prior research roles at the University of Dundee, Universität Wien, and the University of Oxford. He is a leading expert in glycobiology, focusing on N-glycan structures and their biological roles in invertebrates, protozoa, and model organisms like Caenorhabditis elegans and Drosophila melanogaster.

Wilson’s research explores glycosylation pathways, immunomodulatory glycans, and mass spectrometric analysis of non-mammalian glycans. He has supervised numerous doctoral and master’s theses on topics such as glycan interactions, glycomics, and parasite glycobiology.

He has received prestigious awards including the 2007 Novartis-Preis für Chemie and the 2011 GlycoThera Award. Wilson has served on editorial and advisory boards for journals like Journal of Biological Chemistry and Glycobiology and has reviewed for over 40 peer-reviewed journals. His work has been presented at international conferences, including the Society for Glycobiology and Helminthological Society of Washington.
