Iain Anderson

Dr. Iain Anderson serves as Dean of the Graduate College and Executive Director of the Graduate Office at Northeastern State University while maintaining a faculty position in the History Department, having joined the institution in January 2016 after prior teaching appointments at Dana College and Nebraska Wesleyan University.

His academic credentials include:

Dr. Anderson's research spans cultural and social history with particular emphasis on African American musical traditions. His seminal work This Is Our Music: Free Jazz, the Sixties, and American Culture (University of Pennsylvania Press) examines jazz's relationship to 1960s American counterculture, while his additional scholarship investigates nonprofit sponsorship of jazz, commemoration of slave music, transnational identity formation among Danish immigrants, and innovative methodologies in history pedagogy.
