Iain Aberdeen serves as a Senior Lecturer in Sports Coaching at the University of Sunderland, bringing over two decades of international coaching experience across pistol shooting, fencing, and modern pentathlon. His expertise spans sports coaching, talent identification, performance sport, and coaching psychology, with extensive collaboration with National Governing Bodies across development, talent, and performance tiers.
His research focuses on psychological skills for athletes and coaches, with his MSc research specifically examining physical reactions to psychological pressure in elite athletes. Key research interests include coaching pedagogy, coach education, coaching psychology, and athlete development, making him particularly interested in supervising students in psychological skills training and related coaching domains.
