About
I. George Miller is the John F. Enders Professor of Pediatrics (Infectious Diseases) at Yale School of Medicine, with secondary appointments in Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases and Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry. He is a leading expert in pediatric infectious diseases and virology, focusing on oncogenic herpesviruses such as Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and Kaposi’s sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV).
His research explores the molecular mechanisms governing the switch between viral latency and lytic replication, particularly through viral transcription factors like ZEBRA and Rta in EBV and ORF50 in KSHV. His lab investigates how viral and cellular factors regulate gene expression and DNA replication, and is developing novel antiviral agents to prevent EBV reactivation.
Dr. Miller’s work spans virology, molecular biology, immunology, and infectious disease epidemiology. His recent publications highlight themes in viral gene regulation, host-pathogen interactions, immune response to viral infection, and the biochemical characterization of viral enzymes. He has made significant contributions to understanding how herpesviruses contribute to cancer development.
