Dr. Hyunju Song is a Visiting Associate Professor in the Department of Asian Studies at the University of British Columbia (Faculty of Arts). She holds a Ph.D. in Korean Semantics from Kyungpook National University (2011), along with M.A. (2003) and B.A. (2001) degrees from the same institution.
Her research focuses on metaphor analysis across genres, educational discourse, and socio-cultural aspects of Korean language evolution. Key interests include discriminatory/hateful language patterns and the implications of neologisms for language education. She has authored/co-authored multiple publications exploring contemporary Korean vocabulary dynamics and language pedagogy.
Recent works include books analyzing pandemic-era neologisms (2023) and modern lexical innovations (2022). Her teaching specialization covers Korean semantics, vocabulary education, and methodologies for teaching Korean as a foreign language.
