Hyungchul Han

Dr. Hyungchul Han is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Animal & Veterinary Science at the Huntley College of Agriculture, California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. With over two decades of experience, he specializes in animal nutrition, molecular biology, and reproductive physiology, focusing on how maternal environment influences fetal and postnatal development.

Research Interests

Dr. Han’s research centers on maternal environment effects on gene expression, particularly genes regulating nutrient partitioning in the fetus. His work integrates animal nutrition, molecular biology, and developmental physiology to understand how undernutrition or environmental stress during gestation alters growth, metabolic health, and gene expression in offspring. He has extensively studied trace mineral metabolism, fetal programming, and endocrine regulation across cattle, sheep, and swine.

Publication Trends

His recent publications (2015–2019) emphasize trace mineral absorption, prebiotic supplementation, calf behavior, and molecular mechanisms of fetal programming. Earlier works (2002–2015) delve into copper homeostasis, rumen fermentation, interferon-tau actions, and gene expression in cardiac and hepatic tissues, reflecting a sustained focus on integrating nutrition with molecular physiology.

Teaching & Courses

Dr. Han teaches a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses including Animal Genetics, Anatomy & Physiology of Farm Animals, Mammalian Endocrinology, Reproductive Physiology, Biotechnology Applications in Animal Science, and Advanced Nutritional Physiology. He also directs the Graduate Seminar and Research Proposal courses.
