Hyeyoung Lim is a Professor in the J. Frank Barefield Jr. Department of Criminal Justice at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She holds academic appointments including Chief Editor of the Journal of Applied Security Research and Co-Editor of the International Journal of Cybersecurity Intelligence and Cybercrime. Her research focuses on policing practices, cybercrime prevention, and community relations, with particular attention to vulnerable populations and racial/ethnic minority communities.

Recent work highlights include systematic reviews of hate crimes against minorities, cross-cultural policing perceptions among Latin-American immigrants, and the role of indirect-negative contact experiences in shaping public attitudes toward police. Her findings emphasize the need for culturally competent policing strategies and improved data collection on marginalized communities.
Lim teaches courses such as Police in America, Research Methods in Criminal Justice, and Seminar in Criminal Justice Administration, reflecting her commitment to both academic instruction and practical policy engagement.
