Dr. Hyeri Choi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminology at Eastern Illinois University. Her office is located in Blair Hall 3130, and she can be reached at hchoi3@eiu.edu. Student hours for Fall 2025 are Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:00-4:00pm and Wednesdays 1:00-3:00pm, or by appointment.
Dr. Choi holds the following degrees:
- PhD in Social Welfare from University of Pennsylvania (2019-2023)
- Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University (2015-2016)
- Bachelor of Science in Social Work from SUNY Stony Brook (2013-2015)
- Bachelor of Arts in Social Welfare from University of Seoul (2011-2015)
Her research examines critical issues in labor economics and social policy, with particular focus on:
- Work hours preferences and scheduling challenges
- Employer practices and labor market dynamics
- Safety net program effectiveness
- Worker and family well-being
- Job quality metrics and labor standards
- Macroeconomic policy impacts
Recent publications demonstrate Dr. Choi's focus on contemporary labor issues, including COVID-19's impact on essential workers, analysis of involuntary part-time employment, child tax credit effectiveness, and evaluations of Illinois workforce programs.
