He also holds adjunct roles at the University of Texas School of Biomedical Informatics and Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. His research focuses on identifying vulnerabilities and mechanisms of response/resistance in leukemias, integrating computational and experimental approaches. Abbas completed his MD at the American University of Beirut (2014) and PhD in Cancer Biology/Immunology at the MD Anderson UTHealth Houston Graduate School (2010).
Research Interests: His lab explores both intrinsic (leukemia-specific) and extrinsic (immunobiology, stromal interactions) factors in blood cancers. Techniques include single-cell genomics, spatial biology, CRISPR functional screens, and PDX models. Training opportunities are available for computational and experimental researchers.
Grants & Collaborations: Active in translational research programs, collaborating across departments to leverage multiplatform genomic data from clinical trials. Involved in studies funded through NIH and institutional programs.
