Hunter Kopczynski

Hunter Kopczynski serves as Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Bands at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, conducting the UNC Charlotte Wind Ensemble and teaching courses in conducting and music education. Previously, he held similar positions at Mars Hill University and served as conductor of the Asheville Symphony Youth Orchestra.

His educational background includes:

• Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music in Wind Conducting from Michigan State University
• Master of Arts in Education from Virginia Tech
• Bachelor of Arts summa cum laude in Music from Virginia Tech

Dr. Kopczynski advocates for expanding and diversifying wind repertoire while supporting school-based music education. His research examines how experiential learning and curriculum design shape ensemble culture. He actively serves as an adjudicator, clinician, and guest conductor at regional and state music education conferences.

Professionally affiliated with the College Band Directors National Association and National Association for Music Education, he demonstrates leadership through directing the UNC Charlotte Wind Ensemble and previously the Asheville Symphony Youth Orchestra.
