About
Prof. Hulya Kurt is a Professor at Istanbul Technical University's Department of Geophysical Engineering, specializing in Earth Physics, Applied Geophysics, and Marine Geology. Her research uses seismic reflection data to investigate tectonic activity along the North Anatolian Fault, particularly in the Sea of Marmara and Gulf of Izmit. She served as Director of the Spitzer Science Center (2004–2021) and led TUBITAK projects on active tectonics.
Research Interests:
Her work focuses on submarine tectonics, seismic imaging, and basin evolution. Key areas include:
- Quantifying slip rates along fault segments
- Morphological analysis of gas-emitting pockmarks
- Multidisciplinary tectonic modeling
Publications:
Her articles show a consistent focus on high-resolution seismic data to resolve Quaternary fault activity. Recent work emphasizes automated analysis techniques for geological features.
Awards & Memberships:
- American Geophysical Union (2010–present)
- TMMOB Chamber of Geophysical Engineers (2000–present)
Students & Grants:
- Advised 10+ Master's/PhD students on seismic data interpretation
- Secured ₺424,382 in TUBITAK funding for fault system analysis
