Huidong Wei

Dr Huidong Wei is a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at the School of Computing and Engineering, University of Huddersfield. He holds a PhD from Queen’s University Belfast and has held roles as a Visiting Researcher at Caltech, KTP Associate at Aston University, and Research Associate at Newcastle University.

Dr Wei’s research focuses on polymer processing, material modelling, and biomechanics. His work includes:

• Characterizing and modelling biodegradable polymers for medical devices
• Developing in-vitro biomechanics testing platforms for ophthalmic implants
• Investigating anti-microbial coatings for urinary catheters
• Exploring rheological behaviour of biofilms

His research integrates advanced techniques such as digital image correlation, finite element analysis, and synchrotron X-ray scattering. He contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals through sustainable polymer manufacturing and biomedical innovations.
