Hui Zhang

Hui Zhang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, affiliated with the Isakson Center for Neurological Disease Research. Her research focuses on understanding the mechanisms behind dopamine neuron degeneration in Parkinson’s disease and identifying therapeutic targets using cutting-edge techniques such as optical imaging, electrochemistry, electrophysiology, and genetics.

Research Interests: Her work centers on elucidating why substantia nigra compacta dopamine neurons are selectively vulnerable in Parkinson’s disease. She employs multidisciplinary approaches to uncover molecular and cellular pathways involved in neurodegeneration, aiming to translate findings into clinical therapies.

Labs/Teams: Dr. Zhang leads her laboratory, which integrates advanced experimental methods to study neurological diseases. The lab collaborates with the Isakson Center to advance neurological disease research.
