About
Hui Liu is a Research Fellow at the Department of Ecology, Environment and Geoscience, Umeå University, Sweden, based at KBC-Fysiologihuset, Linnaeus väg 6, Umeå, with contact email hui.liu@umu.se and phone +46 90 786 56 64.
Research centers on genomics and evolutionary biology of forest trees, specializing in conifer species (pine and oak). Current work involves detecting structural variations (SVs) using Oxford Nanopore long-read sequencing, genotyping SVs via short-read resequencing, and conducting population analysis to understand adaptation mechanisms. Key methodologies include pan-genome assembly and karyotype evolution studies.
Recent publications demonstrate expertise in climate-driven local adaptation through introgression in oaks and convergent karyotype evolution patterns in conifers, published in high-impact journals including Molecular Biology and Evolution and Advanced Science during 2025.
Dr. Liu actively contributes to the Evolutionary biology research group at Umeå University, focusing on genomic responses to environmental pressures in perennial plant systems.
