Hugo Macario (1965-2021) was a Lecturer in the Department of Music, specializing in Ethnomusicology. He was affiliated with the Ethnomusicology Program and directed the Son Jarocho Ensemble. His work emphasized traditional music of Mexico, Cuba, and Venezuela.
Macario performed extensively with groups like Quetzalcoatl and his own band Ensambe Vientos Del Sur, touring venues such as the Mariachi Festival in Hollywood Bowl and the Rose Bowl halftime show.
