Hugh Hochman is Professor of French and Humanities at Reed College, where he has taught since 1999. Holding a BA in Comparative Literature from Columbia University (1990) and PhD in French from University of Wisconsin-Madison (1999), he teaches courses spanning French language, 20th-century literature, and interdisciplinary humanities.
His research examines ethical dimensions in 20th-century French poetry, particularly exploring relationships between language, material reality, and interpretive practices. He has published scholarly articles on poets including Yves Bonnefoy, Guillevic, Paul Eluard, Robert Desnos, Jacques Réda, and Francis Ponge.
