Houssein El Turkey

Houssein El Turkey is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of New Haven, joining in Fall 2014. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma and Master’s from the American University of Beirut. His teaching philosophy emphasizes student-centered methods, aligning with his research in Research in Undergraduate Mathematics Education (RUME).

His research focuses on fostering mathematical creativity and inclusive classroom climates. He co-authored RUME publications and mentored undergraduate research in Abstract Algebra, Number Theory, and Combinatorics. El Turkey currently directs the Center for Teaching Excellence, promoting workshops on inclusive teaching and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL).

Recent work includes studying rainbow numbers for equations in modular arithmetic and collaborating with the Creativity Research Group. He teaches courses like Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Modern Algebra using active learning methodologies.
