Hossein Zare is an Associate Research Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He is affiliated with the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions and the Center for Health Disparities Solutions. Additionally, he serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC), where he teaches research and data analysis in health systems and health economics.

Dr. Zare's research centers on health disparities, income inequality, racial disparities, and the impact of social and structural factors on population health. His work spans three primary domains: (1) place- and race-based disparities in police shootings and violence; (2) place-based disparities, income inequality, and racial disparities in chronic health outcomes such as obesity, depression, and hypertension; and (3) the role of hospital community benefits in reducing poverty and health disparities. He employs advanced data analysis techniques to investigate these issues and has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles and 11 book chapters.
His recent publications reveal a strong focus on fatal police shootings, income inequality and obesity, and the financial and social responsibilities of non-profit hospitals. These works collectively analyze structural inequities and their health consequences, often using large-scale datasets and rigorous statistical methods.
