Hongbin Yan

Dr. Hongbin (Tony) Yan is Professor of Chemistry at Brock University, specializing in synthetic nucleic acid chemistry and structural analysis. His lab develops novel methodologies for studying nucleic acid conformation and epigenetic modifications.

Research focuses on:

• Left-handed Z-DNA structure and function
• Chemical probes for epigenetic regulation
• Oligonucleotide synthesis techniques
• Environmental effects on nucleic acid conformation

Current projects investigate DNA behavior in crowded cellular environments and silica nanoparticle encapsulation techniques. Yan's group employs analytical tools including CD spectroscopy, HPLC, and microfluidics to study nucleic acid plasticity.

He teaches bioorganic chemistry and toxicological biochemistry, and currently supervises 10 graduate students researching nucleic acid chemistry applications.
