Holly Niven

Holly Niven is a Research Fellow at the University of Glasgow’s School of Biology, Zoology and the Environment. Her work focuses on quantitative ecology, particularly applying modelling to conservation challenges. She holds an MSc in Quantitative Methods in Biodiversity, Conservation and Epidemiology (University of Glasgow, 2020-2021) and a BSc in Mathematics and Physics from the University of St Andrews (2017-2020).

Her research interests include understanding drivers of population dynamics, especially climate change and anthropogenic disturbances, with applications to seabird conservation and capercaillie population viability in Scotland. She collaborates on projects like estimating biologically realistic home ranges for colonial animals and analyzing century-scale climate effects on seabird metapopulations.

Recent publications emphasize spatial exposure modelling for colonial species and long-term climate impacts on seabird populations. She is a member of the British Ecological Society. Supervisors include Professor Jason Matthiopoulos and Dr. Jana Jeglinski.
