Holger Lengfeld

Holger Lengfeld is a Professor of Sociology (Institutions and Social Change) and Managing Director of the Institute of Sociology at Leipzig University. He coordinates Research Area 5: Eastern Europe in Times of Europeanization and Diffusion at the Leibniz-Wissenschaftscampus Eastern Europe Global Area (EEGA) and is involved in the Research Institute for Social Cohesion (FGZ). He holds additional roles as a Research Fellow at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin) and former Chairman of the Academy of Sociology (2019-2021).

His research focuses on social cohesion, middle-class dynamics, populism, and European integration. Notable projects include the German Social Cohesion Panel (SCP), analyzing polarization and societal trends in Germany.
