Professor Hokyu Hwang is a Professor in the School of Management and Governance, UNSW Business School, UNSW Sydney. He earned his PhD and MA in Sociology from Stanford University and his AB with High Honors and High Distinction from the University of California, Berkeley.
Research Focus:
- Expansion and rationalization of formal organizations into sectors such as nonprofits, public agencies, higher education, and environmental governance.
- Institutional theory, organizational actorhood, globalization effects, and the interplay between organizations and their institutional environments.
Recent Publications Trend: His 2020-2024 articles emphasize institutional responses to global crises (e.g., COVID-19, Australian bushfires), computational concepts in sociology, and the evolving role of universities and nonprofits as organizational actors in multi-level contexts.
