Herbert Lardner

Herbert Lardner is a Professor and the Ministry of Agriculture Strategic Research Program Chair in Cow-Calf and Forage Systems at the University of Saskatchewan's College of Agriculture and Bioresources. He holds a Ph.D., M.Sc., and B.S.A. from the University of Saskatchewan. His research focuses on beef cattle nutrition, forage management, and alternative calving systems, with particular emphasis on optimizing economic and environmental outcomes in western Canadian beef production.

Dr. Lardner's educational background includes three degrees from the University of Saskatchewan, reflecting his deep institutional ties. His work integrates agronomic practices with livestock performance, addressing challenges such as nutrient cycling in winter feeding systems and water quality impacts on cattle.

His research interests span beef cattle nutrition, forage and pasture management, maternal nutrition effects on fetal programming, and the application of genomic technologies. Recent publications emphasize calving season economics, forage quality comparisons, and steer performance in diverse pasture systems.

Dr. Lardner teaches courses including Animal Science 492 (Thesis) and graduate-level Nutrition of Grazing Ruminants. His research program collaborates with industry on practical solutions for cow-calf and forage systems, emphasizing sustainable agricultural practices.
