Henry Schilb is an Art History Specialist at Princeton University's Index of Medieval Art within the Department of Art and Archaeology. He holds a PhD from Indiana University Bloomington and previously taught at Indiana University and Herron School of Art and Design.
His research examines Byzantine and post-Byzantine liturgical textiles, with special emphasis on Threnos iconography. Additional interests include cross-cultural artistic exchange and eighteenth-century aesthetic theories.
Publications analyze Byzantine artistic traditions across Eastern Europe, focusing on material culture, ritual functions, and iconographic evolution in textiles.
Recent conference presentations investigate fragmentary epitaphioi and methodological approaches to interpreting medieval material culture.
