Helmut Krieger

Helmut Krieger is a Senior Lecturer and Senior Scientist at the University of Vienna's Institute for International Development, part of the Faculty of Social Sciences. His research focuses on the Arab-Islamic world, Israel/Palestine conflicts, political Islam, and development policies in crisis zones. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Vienna (2014) and has led major projects like KnowWar I and II (Carnegie Corporation-funded) and Rooting Development in Palestine (APPEAR-funded).

He has organized high-profile lectures/seminars on Gaza, Palestine, and regional conflicts, collaborating with institutions like Birzeit University and the Syrian Center for Policy Research. His work emphasizes emancipatory research methodologies and participatory knowledge production in war zones. Key roles include Deputy Head of the Institute (2020-2022) and speaker for the Diakonie One World Academy.

Research projects include analyzing Syria's conflict dynamics, Palestinian statehood, and the political economy of occupation.
