Helmut Gottlieb is a Professor in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW). He earned his Ph.D. in Pharmacology from LSU Health Sciences Center and completed postdoctoral research at UTHSCSA Department of Pharmacology.

His research integrates whole-animal pharmacology, physiology, and molecular biology to investigate the role of opioid systems in fluid/electrolyte balance and cardiovascular function. This work has implications for disease prevention, treatment, and therapeutic development.
Dr. Gottlieb teaches pharmacology courses across UIW's schools, including Pharmacotherapeutics modules on cardiovascular disorders, pulmonary disease, and introductory pharmacology. He has secured NIH and intramural grants to support his research.
