About
Dr. Helge Mooshammer is a Visiting Tutor in Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths, University of London, and a Visiting Research Fellow. His work investigates the intersections of artistic practices, spatial configurations, and socio-political dynamics. With a PhD, he has led major research projects like Networked Cultures (2005-2013), Other Markets (2010-2015), and World of Matter (2011-2016), collaborating globally with artists and scholars. These projects explore resource politics, informal economies, and urban sociality through transdisciplinary approaches.
His research emphasizes how spaces—particularly informal markets and protest sites—reflect and shape economic, political, and cultural systems. Key outputs include monographs like Informal Market Worlds (2015) and World of Matter (2015), which critically examine material ecologies and contested urban spaces. Mooshammer co-founded ThinkArchitecture and contributes to initiatives like the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) projects, focusing on capital architecture and value production.
Teaching includes the MA special subject 'Transforming Critical Practices,' blending theory and practice. His work has been showcased internationally, including at the Whitechapel Gallery (London), Storefront for Art and Architecture (NYC), and the Netherlands Architecture Institute (Rotterdam). Key themes include transnational urbanism, resource governance, and the political aesthetics of space.
Collaborations span institutions like Vienna University of Technology and the IFK Vienna. Current research explores 'Capital Architecture'—how architectural forms materialize economic value—while prior projects analyzed Occupy movements and contested public spaces. Mooshammer’s work bridges art, architecture, and activism to address urgent socio-spatial challenges.
