Helga de Valk

Prof. Helga de Valk is an Honorary Professor of Migration and the Life Course at the Faculty of Spatial Sciences of the University of Groningen. She serves as Director of the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI) in The Hague and holds roles in policy advisory boards such as the ACVZ (Immigration Advisory Committee). Her research focuses on migration demographics, family formation, and the social impacts of residential mobility.

Her recent work explores topics like adolescent life satisfaction linked to mobility, childhood migration patterns in Europe, and marital behavior among immigrant populations. She has been recognized with awards including the Allianz European Demographer Award (2016) and a DeZim fellowship (2019).
