About
Helena Junicke is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). She is affiliated with the PROSYS - Process and Systems Engineering Centre and the DTU Microbes Initiative. Her research focuses on advancing sustainable bioprocess engineering, including microbial fermentation optimization, biomanufacturing scale-up, and environmental process systems. She contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals through innovations in biofuel production, resource recovery, and industrial wastewater treatment.
Her work integrates computational fluid dynamics (CFD), process modeling, and systems engineering to address challenges in bioreactor design and bioprocess efficiency. Key areas of expertise include fermentation kinetics, microbial strain development, and process integration for industrial applications.
Dr. Junicke has been awarded the prestigious Marie Curie Fellowship (2017) and actively supervises multiple PhD projects, including scale-up strategies for 3-hydroxypropanoic acid production and Pseudomonas putida biomanufacturing. She collaborates on projects aiming to retrofit industrial wastewater systems for enhanced environmental and economic performance.
