Dr. Helena Hof is a Senior Research and Teaching Fellow in the Social Science of Japan Program at the University of Zurich and a Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity. Her work focuses on international migration, gender, labor markets, and urban studies in Asia. She holds affiliations with Waseda University's Institute of Asian Migrations and the National University of Singapore's Asia Research Institute.
Education: PhD in International Studies (Waseda University, 2018), MA in International Relations (Waseda, 2015), BA in Asian Studies (University of Bonn, 2012). Research interests include skilled migration, entrepreneurship in global cities, and socio-cultural diversity in Tokyo and Singapore. She has led projects on migrant retention strategies and the role of skills in labor migration.
Major awards include the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Early-Career Grant (2019–2024) and multiple grants from the Toshiba International Foundation. Her recent publications analyze EU migrant experiences in Asian global cities and intersectional racial dynamics in migration.
