Helena Bergman is an Associate Professor in History and Senior Lecturer at Södertörn University. She serves as Subject Coordinator for History and Director of PhD-level studies in Historical Studies/UVS/History. Her research focuses on welfare state history, childhood and family history, and the history of knowledge and professions.
Recent work includes investigating the intersections of knowledge and policy in Swedish welfare politics, particularly regarding alcohol and substance abuse. A key publication is an article in Minerva (2022), co-authored with Lena Eriksson, analyzing 1960s Swedish alcohol and drug policy research.
Current research combines gender, childhood, and knowledge history to study 20th-century Swedish understandings of children’s, adolescents’, and pregnant women’s alcohol and food consumption. No active projects are listed at this time. She can be contacted at helena.bergman@sh.se.
