Helen Williams is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Lead for the Primary PGCE at St. Mary’s University, where she has been since 2021. She teaches mathematics and master’s-level courses for PGCE students. Her expertise lies in supporting underperforming student groups, particularly children with speech-language and communication disorders or additional needs in mainstream classrooms. Helen holds an EdD (completed February 2023) focused on mathematics learning strategies for pupils with speech-language and communication disorders.
With extensive experience as a primary school teacher, adviser, and headteacher in both inner and outer London schools—many in high-deprivation areas—Helen combines practical classroom insights with academic research. Her research emphasizes inclusive pedagogy and equitable mathematics education. She has presented at the British Society for Research into Learning Mathematics (BRSLM).
Helen’s work bridges theory and practice, advocating for tailored instructional methods to address educational disparities. Her 2019 publication examines the Mathematics Mastery programme’s application in special schools, contributing to evidence-based practices in inclusive education.
