Helen Thompson is Professor of Political Economy at the University of Cambridge, affiliated with the Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS). Her research focuses on the political economy of energy and the long-term analysis of democratic, economic, and geopolitical disruptions in the 21st century. She has been a permanent faculty member since 1994 and is scheduled for sabbatical/research leave during the Easter Term of 2025. She contributes to public discourse as a columnist for the New Statesman and a regular panellist on the podcast Talking Politics.
