Helen Stuart is an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Division of Evolution, Infection and Genomics at the University of Manchester. Her work focuses on genetic medicine, renal disorders, and developmental biology, contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals. She is a Clinical Lecturer and Trainee in Clinical Genetics, with affiliations to the Manchester Regenerative Medicine Network and Christabel Pankhurst Institute.
Research interests include genetic screening for renal abnormalities, molecular mechanisms of urinary tract disorders, and disease-associated gene networks. Recent work has explored Alport syndrome variants, congenital kidney malformations, and urofacial syndrome genetics. Her studies employ machine learning, zebrafish models, and exome sequencing.
Professional memberships include the British Society for Genetic Medicine, UK Clinical Genetics Society, and Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. She holds an MBChB, MRCPCH, and PhD. Her thesis investigated urofacial syndrome as a genetic model for urinary tract abnormalities under supervisors Woolf and Newman.
