Helen SOUTHWOOD

Helen SOUTHWOOD is an Associate Professor in Speech Pathology at the University of Canberra, affiliated with the Centre for Ageing Research and Translation. She holds a PhD from the same institution. Her research focuses on neurological communication disorders, aged care, and pediatric feeding challenges. She leads or collaborates on projects addressing allied health in dementia care, transition-to-practice programs for healthcare professionals, and nursing education during pandemics.

Research interests include Parkinson’s disease, speech production, and sensory processing in neurological conditions. Projects emphasize transdisciplinary care models for aged care facilities and improving healthcare professional training. She has contributed to studies on stuttering education for teachers and interventions for tube-feeding dependence in children.
