Helen Kindred serves as Director of Studies at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD), bringing over 30 years of experience as a dance-artist and academic scholar. She holds a PhD from Middlesex University (2021), an MFA in Choreography from University of Roehampton (2007), and a BA in Dance Studies from Roehampton Institute (1995). Her work integrates performance, community engagement, and choreographic research with a focus on relational and inclusive pedagogies.
Helen's research interests center on dance pedagogy, somatic practices, and curriculum innovation. She has pioneered transactional educational approaches that prioritize student well-being through the integration of somatic practices and has co-developed the Global Water Dances curriculum to promote environmental awareness through movement.
Her contributions to curriculum development earned her a nomination for the Excellence in Curriculum Design award (2024) and the Most Empowering Lecturer award (2019) at Middlesex University. Helen has served on academic review panels for Middlesex University, Royal Academy of Dance, and University of Roehampton.
