Dr. Helen Cheng is a Marie Bashir Clinical Research Fellow in Adolescent Health and Conjoint Associate Lecturer at the University of Sydney. A dual-qualified Accredited Practising Dietitian and exercise scientist, she completed her Ph.D. examining iron deficiency in young women with obesity.
Her research focuses on adolescent nutrition and obesity, particularly how pubertal biological changes influence health behaviors and metabolic outcomes. She investigates physiological barriers to healthy eating in young populations to address obesity epidemics.
Current projects include the ARCHER Study (Adolescent Rural Cohort Study of Hormones, Health, Education, Environments and Relationships) and research on salt intake's impact on adolescent cardiovascular risk trajectories. Her publications examine hormonal changes during puberty and their relationship to growth and obesity.
