Helen Brooks is Senior Lecturer and Head of the Mental Health Research Group at the University of Manchester's School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work. She serves as Programme Director for the Masters in Clinical Research and teaches research methods across undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
Her research examines:
- The role of social networks in chronic condition management
- Co-design and implementation of complex health interventions
- Process evaluations in healthcare settings
- Mental health service delivery in the UK, Indonesia, and Pakistan
- The therapeutic role of companion animals
Her recent publications focus on mental health literacy, community health workers in Indonesia, and patient involvement in therapy services. Research demonstrates consistent attention to qualitative methodologies and cross-cultural mental health interventions.
Dr. Brooks leads significant projects including the NIHR Global Health Research Group for sustainable anxiety and depression care in Indonesia, and rehabilitation interventions for burns survivors in Pakistan. She serves as Associate Editor for BMC Health Services Research and contributes to mental health policy development.
She currently supervises PhD candidates investigating social support in higher education and community mental health delivery in Indonesia.
